School students in Scotland working hard to win £3,000 prize

The Youth Philanthropy group at the Vale of Leven Academy in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland is working hard to win the Youth Philanthropy Initiative prize of £3,000 for Contact the Elderly.

The Youth Philanthropy Initiative is a citizenship programme that raises awareness amongst students about philanthropy and their local community. Each participating school is responsible for directing a £3000 YPI Grant to a local charity through a unique programme of team work, research and competition.

Our West of Scotland Development Officer, Margaret Oliver, met with the group to discuss what we do, how we do it, and the benefits to both our guests and volunteers.

Margaret said “their enthusiasm and commitment is amazing, and they are genuinely interested in the welfare of older people. They are even planning a tea party in the next few months for a local group”.

The group have worked incredibly hard, organising two fundraising events – a bake sale in the school and a bag packing event at a local store which raised £231!

Above is a photo of Natasha, Abbie and Carneh from the Youth Philanthropy group presenting the cheque to Margaret at the school.
