Enough money has been raised to start a new Contact the Elderly tea party group, thanks to funds raised in a single evening by two supporters.
Alex and Nick rallied friends, family and colleagues to Brixton, London for an evening of pizza, quizzes and fundraising for Contact the Elderly.
Nick’s parents have been volunteering with their local group for over six years and were inspired to do some fundraising for us. They both wanted to make a difference to the lives of isolated older people, and with 91 pence of every pound raised for Contact the Elderly going directly towards the cause, their support is invaluable.
They set themselves a target to raise enough money to pay for a new group launch in the area. With a total of £7,000 raised during the evening they exceeded their target.
They organised a raffle, pub quiz and an auction at Brixton East 1871 where the local pizzeria donated 25% of profits from orders from the evening to Contact the Elderly too.
Alex and Nick said: "It was a real pleasure to be fundraising on behalf of CTE. We were overwhelmed by the support that we received on the night which is testament to the importance of this amazing cause.
"Having the CTE team in attendance too really helped and hopefully accounted for a few of the more generous bids during our auction!".
Over 150 people attended the evening and Contact the Elderly was thrilled to see such an enjoyable and successful evening organised to raise money for its vital work.
