At Contact the Elderly, we are always thrilled to see our supporters take on incredible challenges in order to raise money for our vital work. One shining example is Deborah Archibald, who completed an impressive 500-mile run over the course of our Jubilee year in 2015. In doing so, Deborah wanted to raise money for older guests in Aberdeen to enjoy an extra special Christmas outing.
Deborah’s inspiration to fundraise for us came from her work in the care sector. She said:
‘After working in the care sector I am well aware of how the elderly can become isolated and feel lonely, especially at Christmas.
‘This is not going to be an easy challenge - taking into consideration weather, illness, holidays and injuries - however I will complete this and I'm sure your donations and kind words will keep me motivated!’
500 miles later, and Deborah has raised a phenomenal £1,835 for Contact the Elderly - exceeding her target by 83%! It's not too late to sponsor her here.
Deborah was supported all the way by friends, colleagues and by Contact the Elderly too. We were thrilled to see Deborah complete her challenge bit by bit in her red charity t-shirt. By posting regular updates on her Facebook page, she received brilliant support from her community who cheered her along all the way.
