A weekend to celebrate older people
Older people contribute enormously to society and this is something Contact the Elderly volunteers know to be very true. Every month across England, Scotland and Wales, volunteer drivers and hosts have tea with older people in their community and hear their funny stories as well as sharing their nuggets of wisdom.
This coming weekend (1-2 October) is an exciting one for older people and those who know and support them.
On Saturday 1 October, International Older People’s Day
is a day which raises awareness of the challenges and issues older people face in society, as well as being an opportunity to celebrate all the important contributions they make.
On Sunday 2 October, Silver Sunday
is an annual day of free and fun activities across the UK. Older people can attend an array of events, make friends and find out what kind of activities are out there for them to enjoy all year round.
Contact the Elderly is supporting Silver Sunday this year by throwing several silver-themed tea parties and over 50 Contact the Elderly groups will be holding special Silver Sunday gatherings to celebrate the day.
There are many events happening to further celebrate Silver Sunday, a full list of events taking place and booking information can be found here
Contact the Elderly is looking forward to further spreading the word about how our free, monthly tea parties can help reduce loneliness and social isolation amongst older people.
If you know someone who is aged 75 or over and who lives alone, you can easily refer them to our service
here. We will then take care of the rest. If you’d like to see where we have groups, you can see our map of locations
