Christmas can be a difficult time of year, particularly for those living alone who are socially isolated and vulnerable.
This year, we are joining forces with Community Christmas to ensure no older person spends the day alone unless they want to. This collaboration comes in advance of a merger in 2019. Please sign up to our E-news for future updates.
We are encouraging communities across the UK to come together this festive season and host an activity for local older people who face spending the day alone.
“It’s nice to know someone cares. I had a lovely day and just wish every day could be the same. It made a change having something to look forward to in my calendar rather than fear the empty house.”
Help us to make sure that no older person is alone this Christmas unless they want to be and give the gift of friendship this year. Why not work in your local community to host a Christmas Day activity for a lonely older person? We will list the event on the Community Christmas website and show that you are part of the movement to end loneliness this Christmas.
No two activities are the same - they vary from Christmas lunches with all the trimmings, to festive film screenings, to mince pies and carol singing. Last year we even had a football table tournament hosted at a local sports centre! Any activity which creates the all important connections that hold communities together can be a Community Christmas event.
If you’re interested in putting on an activity this year, or know of one taking place, please get in touch with our team at Community Christmas.
Do you have an older relative or neighbour who will be spending Christmas day alone? See if there is anything going on in their area and suggest to them that they come along.
Your support could help us transform the life of a lonely older person this Christmas.
