Wales
In 1987 Contact the Elderly employed its first part-time Development Officer in Wales. We now have 3 part-time Development Officers looking after over 40 groups stretching from south to north with over 300 volunteers ensuring regular monthly outings to around 350 older people.
Funding from The Big Lottery Fund, The Welsh Assembly and Wales Council for Voluntary Action, as well as numerous large and small donations from local charities, organisations and companies have ensured a continuous expansion of the number of groups and older people we are able to help.
Working in partnership has become a prominent feature of our work in Wales. Our partners range from local and national organisations, to housing associations and county borough councils, who help run groups, supply volunteers and provide the monthly venues. With various trusts and university volunteer schemes we all work together to reach the most isolated people in the nation.
Throughout Wales we are lucky to have a long-serving and dedicated band of volunteer coordinators, drivers and hosts who warmly welcome new members to their ranks.
