7/9/2010: The Duke of Devonshire presents long service awards
The Duke of Devonshire KCVO, CBE, DL presented long service awards to two volunteers of the 3rd Leeds Group that was launched in 2000.
The occasion was in August when The Duke and Duchess of Devonshire welcomed the 4 Leeds groups to Bolton Hall, Bolton Abbey. They hosted a truly memorable afternoon which was greatly enjoyed by all the members and volunteers.

Our pictures show drivers, Milly Lund (top) and Maureen Smith, with the Duke of Devonshire and Mary Robinson, Yorkshire Development Officer and North West Manager.
Also a member, Eileen, is shown presenting a bouquet to the Duchess on behalf of all the Leeds groups who were enjoying the truly delicious tea and an afternoon full of conversation and interest.

6/9/2010: Letter from a Contact the Elderly member

I really enjoy going to the Sunday teas. I praise the people who make it so special. We all enjoy it so much.
The people whose houses we go to make it so special. They give their time voluntarily to make our day so entertaining.
I hope the teas go on for a very long time.
Yours sincerely,
Lucy

6/9/2010: Downpour didn't dampen the spirits
"We had a lovely time and a downpour halfway through the afternoon did not dampen our spirits", says Malcolm Goman, coordinator of the East Grinstead Contact the Elderly group.
"In all we had 8 of our 13 members for the cream tea and 7 volunteers. Those in the photo are as follows :- The table nearest the camera - Members Frances and Mollie and volunteer Sue ( holding the scone ) The table farthest from the camera - Members Jean and Daphne and volunteer Marilyn ( wearing the pink top ) The other table - Members Barrie and John."

The group visited the Strawberry Fayre Tearoom in Buxted as a special outing for the members and volunteers.
26/8/2010: Tea at the seaside
"The Medway Group of Contact the Elderly was re-launched last December, we have had a succesful year to date and want to build on this", says Sam who is coordinating the group.
"We have had great success this year with people volunteering to host tea parties, and we have had great support from local organisations, churches and care homes and would like to say thank you to all the people and organisations that have supported us. We have succedded in securing funding from Kent Community Foundation to enable us to arrange an outing to Herne Bay for the day."

"The day out in Herne Bay was a great success and all our elderly members had a fantastic time and having this opportunity truley made a difference and the parties always give our memebers something to look forward to."

"We are always looking for new volunteers to host and drive, if you are interested please contact Suzan Hyland who looks after the area."
26/8/2010: Tea parties on the canal
During the summer, the majority of Contact the Elderly groups near Inverness take the opportunity to have a wee cruise along the Caledonian Canal.
The Seagull Trust runs free trips up and down this famous waterway in a fully accessible converted barge. On board, looking after everyone is a skipper, two seafaring helpers and a lady who makes a lovely cup of tea.

Inverness 3 Group supplemented this with sandwiches & cakes and had a good old Contact the Elderly Tea Party whilst enjoying the wild flowers and passing yachts.
17/8/2010: Councillors join tea party launch
A lovely tea party was enjoyed at the launch of our new group at Pentrefelin in North Wales. We were joined by local Councillors Steve Churchman and John Edwards, and PCSO Paul Duggan.
Pentrefelin is a small rural village, where lack of local facilities compound the isolation experienced by older people.
